The Olympians were a race of gods that overthrew the Titans. They live on Mount Olympus. There are 12 Olympian gods. The most commonly known gods are Zeus, Athena, Demeter, and Aphrodite.
Demeter
Demeter was the Greek goddess of nature and agriculture. She was responsible for all crops and harvesting them. She was a gentle, but fierce goddess. Her daughter is Persephone. Demeter is responsible for the seasons. Look in our Seasons section and find out the story.

Poseidon
Poseidon was the Greek god of the sea. Poseidon had absolute control over the seas. He lived in his domain on the bottom of the ocean. He was calm and peaceful at times, and violent and raging at other times. A lot like the ocean. Poseidon was also the god of horses and earthquakes. He was even named the "Earth Shaker".

Hestia
Hestia was the Greek goddess of the hearth. Hestia oversaw every hearth and was responsible for keeping man's fires warm. She resides in a huge hearth, in the Hall of the Gods. There is an argument as to whether Hestia is the final Olympian, or Dionysus; the Greek god of wine and the grapevine. Hestia is often called "The Last Olympian".

Hermes
Hermes was the Greek god of trickery, thieves, and mischief. He was also the Messenger of the Gods. He was the overseer of all packages and deliveries. Hermes carried around a staff that had two snakes wrapped around it. Hermes is also the god of shepherds and land travel. He was known for his cunning and shrewd personality.

Aphrodite
Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of beauty and love. Aphrodite was able to determine someone's looks and love life before they were even born. Aphrodite emerged from the ocean. She came from a mixture of foamy salt water and the blood from the Titan, Kronos. Aphrodite does not have one specific form. She appears differently to everyone. She will appear to mortals in the form of what they find attractive. The term, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", comes to play in this.

Hephaestus
Hephaestus was the Greek god of forgery, ironworks, and fire. He is the son of Hera. When he was a baby, Hera threw him off of Mount Olympus. He is depicted as a bearded man, who has a deformed leg and a hunchback. He often makes many of the weapons for the Olympians. He is married to the Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. He is also the god of volcanoes and he was the blacksmith of the Olympian Gods.
